LAHORE - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has held its General Council meeting after a long gap of thirteen years.

“The meeting was convened as per Clause 17 of the PCB Constitution. This was the first time the PCB General Council met since 1998,” the Daily Times quoted a PCB spokesman, as saying.

A total of 73 members comprising 18 full members, 53 associate members, as well as 2 honorary members- former PCB chairmen Khalid Mehmood and Tauqir Zia- attended the meeting,” he added.

While both Tauqir and Khalid praised the board for holding the meeting, PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt informed the house that as per the board’s Constitution, the General Council meeting would be convened on an annual basis in the future.

“The PCB chief also stressed on all the members that following the historic achievement of the Pakistan women’s team in Asian Games last year, it is essential that women’s teams be formed in all districts and full support should be given to promote women’s cricket in the country,” the spokesman added.

He said the agenda of the meeting included “consideration of the PCB annual report and future programmes as devised by the PCB board of governors, consideration of audited accounts and budget estimates and to make recommendations to the board of governors for promotion of cricket in Pakistan.”

He also said that the General Council members shared their suggestions and made recommendations for the continued development of cricket and related infrastructure in the country. “The PCB’s initiatives in this regard were recognized by the members,” he added.

Representatives of Pakistan Blind and Deaf Cricket Association expressed their appreciation at being recognised as the General Council members for the first time, and apprised the meeting of the progress of their respective associations. (ANI)
