FIFA likely to give go-ahead to proposed goal-line technology

LONDON - Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Mohamed Bin Hammam, who could succeed FIFA President Sepp Blatter in May, has confirmed his support for the proposed goal-line technology.
Hammam’s backing comes just two weeks before the FIFA Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting which could give it the go-ahead.
“I’m a great supporter for the idea of goal-line technology,” Sky Sports quoted Hammam, as saying.
The ExCo member also backed an extension of the use of goalmouth referees in the build-up to the International Football Association Board (IFAB) meeting from March 4 to 6.
“I am also supporting the idea of having two additional assistant referees behind the goal. This all will not make referee’s mistakes disappear. However, it is going to reduce the mistakes,” Hammam said.
UEFA is understood to be keen to extend its idea of two additional assistants - used in the Europa League - to next year’s European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine. (ANI)
