HAMBANTOTA - Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has vowed to win the World Cup for millions of weary fans back home, who lost out on the showpiece event after their country became a no-go zone.

“Not playing in our country is on our minds. We feel for our nation, our people who are missing the World Cup,” the Nation quoted Afridi

“I think this is the main thing for us, so definitely we will try our level best to win, which is very important for us, and if we do that I hope some cricket returns to our country sooner than later,” he added.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had moved away Pakistan’s share of 14 games after a militant attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in March 2009.

The games were distributed among the other three joint hosts- India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign against Kenya today. (ANI)
