HAMBANTOTA - Pakistan coach Waqar Younis believes that the recent spot-fixing scandal will not have a detrimental effect on their World Cup campaign, which gets underway against Kenya today.
Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were banned for at least five years earlier this month after they were found guilty of ’spot-fixing’ charges by an ICC tribunal in Doha.
“Whatever happened last year is now history,” the Nation quoted Waqar, as saying.
Waqar said that he was satisfied with the preparations, and the mood in the team ahead of their opening match.
“We spent around 10 days in Bangladesh and played two warm-up matches and in this time we utilized all our energies to boost our fielding and shore up our physical fitness, which is going to be crucial in the matches,” Waqar said. (ANI)
