Jharkhand, Haryana dominate boxing at National Games

RANCHI - Jharkhand and Haryana dominated the boxing arena in the ongoing 34th National Games by winning seven gold medals till Thursday, the last day of contests in the discipline.

On the final day of boxing events, as many as 19 gold medals were decided. Haryana won six of these while Jharkhand bagged the maximum seven.

Jharkhand won three silver medals too. Prominent among the winners were Jharkhand’s Aruna Mishra and Neetu Chahal, Haryana’s Arun Kumar in super heavy weight, Pavitra in the 57 kg feather weight (women), Pooja in the middle weight 75 kg where she outclassed Jharkhand’s Taruna Mishra, and Dilbagh Singh in the welter weight 69 kg.

The other gold medals were won by Tripura (2), Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Services and Mizoram one each.
