NEW DELHI - Guyanese leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo will replace all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in the West Indies squad for the World Cup.
The replacement was approved by the event technical committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Tuesday.
Bishoo was the Player of the Tournament in the 2010 Caribbean Twenty20 tournament and took another six wickets in this year’s edition of the tournament last month. The aggressive leggie also took ten wickets in the WICB Regional 50-Over Tournament last October.
In the on-going WICB Regional Four-Day Tournament, Bishoo has collected 14 wickets. Bishoo has appeared in 20 first class matches, ten 50-over matches and 13 T20s and played for the West Indies A team versus Pakistan A in 2010.
Bravo, the side’s leading all-rounder, suffered a major injury to his left knee during the defeat against South Africa last Thursday. He is expected to be out of the game for a minimum of four weeks.
Bravo is the 11th player to be replaced in the tournament after compatriots Adrian Barath and Carlton Baugh, Zimbabwes Edward Rainsford, Tinotenda Mawoyo and Sean Ervine, Australias Nathan Hauritz and Michael Hussey, Praveen Kumar of India, Englands Eoin Morgan and Sohail Tanvir of Pakistan were earlier replaced.
