Sri Lanka set 217-run target for New Zealand

COLOMBO - Sri Lanka made 216 for seven against New Zealand in the first one-day international of the Compaq Cup cricket at the Premadasa Stadium here Tuesday.

Thilan Samaraweera scored a patient 104 and youngster Angelo Matthews made a quick 51 after Sri Lanka slumped to 69 for five in the 26th over. New Zealand’s comeback man Shane Bond, playing his first ODI after two years, was the most successful bowler with three for 43.
