Sangakkara first Sri Lankan captain to score ton on Indian soil (Statistical Highlights)

MUMBAI - Kumar Sangakkara scored a defiant 133 in the second innings of the third and the final Test here Saturday to become the first Sri Lankan captain to post a century on Indian soil.

The first three Sri Lankan skippers to make centuries against India were Duleep Mendis, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene.

Statistical highlights of the day:

* Kumar Sangakkara made his first century on Indian soil - 133 not out off 258 balls (strike rate 51.55). This is his third century against India - his first two were 144 off 288 balls at Colombo PSS in 2008 and 105 not out off 226 balls at Galle in 2001.

* Sangakkara’s third century against India was his 21st in Tests.

* For the third time in Tests, Sangakkara amassed 1,000 runs in a calendar year, aggregating 1,079 runs at an average of 59.94 in eleven Tests. The previous two instances were in 2006 and 2009.

* Prasanna Jayawardene, with 297 runs at an average of 74.25, has set a batting record for making the most runs by a Sri Lankan wicketkeeper against India. This is his best performance in a Test series.

* Tharanga Paranavitana recorded two 50s in a Test match for the firswt time - 53 & 54. Paranavitana has taken his tally of half-centuries to four in Tests - two each against India and Pakistan.

* Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (100) is the third wicketkeeper to take 100 catches for India, the others being Syed Kirmani (160) and Kiran More (110).

* Samaraweera registered his sixth duck in Tests - his second duck against India.
