London, Sep 20 (ANI): Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has termed ace Liverpool striker Fernando Torres a cheat.

Manchester United’s John O’Shea escaped calls for a red card after bringing down Torres during Sunday’s clash.

Following United’s 3-2 win, Ferguson said: “I have watched it again and Torres made an absolute meal of it to try and get the player sent off.”

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson said: “My first thought from the bench was that it was a foul but I must say I didn’t think the player should have been sent off.”

United were leading at 2-0 up due to Dimitar Berbatov’s double strike.

But after 64 minutes Torres was fouled by Jonny Evans to earn a penalty, which Steven Gerrard scored in.

Six minutes later Torres went down under O’Shea’s challenge on the edge of the area - earning the United players a booking and Gerrard scored from the free kick.

But Berbatov completed his hat trick in the 84th minute to give United a thrilling victory.

Ferguson said: “At 2-0 I thought it was going to be a cricket score. It was a game we absolutely dominated and I was saying to myself ‘it could’ve been 10′. So when it looked like ending 2-2, it would have been a travesty.

“They had the momentum when it went to 2-2 but they never offered anything did they? They had to depend on decisions from the linesman to get back into the game.” (ANI)
