25 wides against India in friendly would have set Oz record had tie been official

SYDNEY - The Australian team would have easily won the crown of the nation’s most wayward attack in almost a decade after conceding 25 wides in India’s innings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium

Australia’s bowlers were fortunate that Sunday’s match against India did not have official one-day international status.

The largely encouraging performance from the bowlers was tainted by their concession of 25 wides, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

On Sunday, every Australian bowler finished with at least two wides, with Mitchell Johnson the worst with six in nine overs. Conversely, India conceded only three in 37.5 overs.

“That’s unacceptable really to bowl that many wides in a one-day game. The bowlers know that,” Ricky Ponting said. (ANI)
