China cancels weightlifting Grand Prix

BEIJING - The 2009 China Grand Prix has been cancelled because of the global outbreak of influenza A (H1N1), commonly known as swine flu, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has said.

“Due to the … influenza around the world, the Chinese Weightlifting Association (CWA) decided to cancel the IWF Grand Prix for 2009,” said the IWF.

The IWF Grand Prix was scheduled July 26-Aug 2 in east China’s Fujian province, the hometown of Olympic weightlifting champions Shi Zhiyong and Zhang Xiangxiang.
