NASCAR sticking with shift to double-file restarts
LONG POND, Pa. — The excitement caused by the double-file restarts at the All-Star race is one reason why NASCAR has implemented the new procedure for the rest of the Sprint Cup season.
NASCAR vice president Robin Pemberton says it was time to strike while the topic was creating buzz. Pemberton, speaking Friday at Pocono Raceway, says the fans were more vocal than in the past about wanting the change and the sanctioning body decided to listen.
The change will take effect Sunday at Pocono.
The race leader will have the option to restart on the inside or outside lane. The second-place driver would then restart next to the leader.
The format will be adapted for the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in the future.
