Crosby & Malkin lift Penguins to 4-2 win over Red Wings, tying Stanley Cup finals 2-2

Penguins beat Red Wings in Game 4, evening series

PITTSBURGH — Sidney Crosby scored his first goal in four games in the Stanley Cup finals to put Pittsburgh ahead midway through the second period, helping the Penguins beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-2 to even the series.

Evgeni Malkin opened the scoring Thursday night, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 37 saves for Pittsburgh, providing a contrast to last year’s six-game loss to Detroit in the finals. The Penguins won at home Tuesday night after losing twice at Detroit, just as they did a year ago, but they won Game 4 unlike last time.

After Malkin’s goal, Darren Helm and Brad Stuart gave Detroit a 2-1 lead early in the second period. Jordan Stall, Crosby and Tyler Kennedy scored in a 5½-minute span of the second for a 4-2 lead.

Game 5 is Saturday night in Detroit.
