Wilmington upsets Chicago 1-0 in US Open Cup

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Kenny Bundy’s goal in the first half lifted the Wilmington Hammerheads past the Chicago Fire 1-0 Tuesday night in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Bundy scored in the 37th minute when he took a pass from defender Tim Karalexis and beat goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra.

The Hammerheads, of USL-2, advanced to the quarterfinals by beating an MLS team for the second time and the first since 2003, when they made their only other quarterfinal appearance.
