Medina Garrigues, Hradecka advance in Istanbul Cup

ISTANBUL — Third-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain has beaten wildcard Pemra Ozgen of Turkey 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Istanbul Cup.

Medina Garrigues is to meet fifth-seeded Vera Dushevina of Russia in the quarterfinals. Ozgen was making her first appearance in the second round of a WTA Tour tournament.

In other matches on Wednesday, eighth-seeded Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic topped Julia Goerges of Germany, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1; Urszula Radwanska of Poland ousted qualifier Ekaterina Dzehalevich of Belarus 7-5, 1-6, 6-4; and Germany’s Andrea Petkovic beat Rossana De Los Rios of Paraguay 6-1, 6-0.

The tournament’s top seeds — No. 1 Vera Zvonareva of Russia and No. 2 Patty Schnyder of Switzerland — were knocked out in the first round.
