Jurcina re-signs with Capitals after arbitration

ARLINGTON, Va. — Defenseman Milan Jurcina has re-signed with the Washington Capitals after being awarded a one-year $1.375 million contract through arbitration.

The deal was announced on Friday.

Jurcina played in 79 of 82 games last season, leading all Capitals defensemen. He had three goals, a career-high 11 assists and led the team with 131 blocked shots, earning him a raise from his $912,000 salary for 2008-09.

The 26-year-old Slovak was acquired by the Capitals from the Boston Bruins in 2007. He has played in 275 NHL games — 184 with Washington — and has 14 career goals with 32 assists.
