Rampone to serve as player-coach of Sky Blue FC

SOMERSET, N.J. — U.S. national team captain Christie Rampone will serve as player-coach of Sky Blue FC of Women’s Professional Soccer.

The New York area team announced Thursday that the 34-year-old defender will be the interim coach after Kelly Lindsey’s sudden resignation a day earlier. Sky Blue (6-7-5) has two remaining regular season games and is in contention for a playoff berth in the league’s inaugural season.

Rampone is the club’s third coach this season. Ian Sawyers was fired in May because of disagreements with management. General manager Gerry Marrone says the team was “shocked” and “disappointed” by Lindsey’s decision.

A New Jersey native, Rampone has played in three World Cups and three Olympics.
