straussLEEDS - Fans of English cricket taunted and booed captain Andrew Strauss as the host’s went down to the Australians by an innings and 80 runs in the fourth Ashes Test inside three days on Sunday. A section of the crowd sang a tribute to former skipper Michael Vaughan as Strauss’ side was hammered into submission.Strauss was also booed by a small pocket of fans.

The Sun quoted Strauss, as saying: “”I’d be very resistant to wholesale changes but we need a period of calm reflection to pick the best 11 players to win the game. It’s hard to put my finger on it. The reality of the situation was that first session was awful and from there on it was always very hard to get back into the game.”

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting was delighted with the turnaround in his team’s fortunes.

“It was only at Lord’s a couple of weeks ago that no one thought we had any chance at all of being able to bounce back and here we are now doubting everything England’s been doing. We’ve been in total control this week but we’ve got to make sure we carry that over. We will definitely have a spring in our step. Attitude has been spot on in this game,” Ponting said. (ANI)
