KARACHI - Former captain Javed Miandad has been appointed as batting ‘advisor’ of the national squad by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Miandad would be helping and training Pakistani batsmen to prepare themselves better for the Champions Trophy which is scheduled to be held in South Africa in September-October.

Miandad will help and assist the Pakistan batsmen ahead of the Champions Trophy,” PCB chairman Ijaz Butt told media persons here.

Butt said the decision to rope in Miandad for assisting players was taken after the disastrous tour of Sri Lanka, where Pakistan’s batting order failed to resist the new look Lanka bowling.

“Recent results in Sri Lanka suggest that we need a professional batting coach with the team so we asked Miandad to help us out and he has agreed. Miandad has accepted the responsibility without any additional demand. He will work with the batsmen at home and will not tour with the team,” The Daily Times quoted Butt, as saying.

Miandad would also be working with the under-19 team ahead of the next year’s Junior World Cup.

When enquired about offering former Test opener Saeed Anwar a key position in the board administration, Butt said the final decision in this regard would be taken later. (ANI)
