Baffert among new inductees to racing hall

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Three-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Bob Baffert has been inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame along with trainer Janet Eliot, jockey Eddie Maple and three horses.

Baffert has won eight Triple Crown races and three Eclipse Awards as the nation’s outstanding trainer during a 30-plus-year career. He also won seven Breeders’ Cup races and developed 10 champions, including Silverbulletday, who was among Friday’s inductees.

Elliot, who primarily trained steeplechase horses, is the first female trainer elected to the Hall of Fame and just the second woman overall.

Maple rode 4,398 winners during a career that ended in 1998 after three decades.

Besides Silverbulletday, Tiznow and steeplechase champion Ben Nevis II were the other horses inducted.
