EDGBASTON - Indian Premier League champion Deccan Chargers and England domestic Twenty20 winners Sussex Sharks are in a tight spot as they battle it out for West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Smith, who plays a crucial role in both teams.
Chargers and Sharks have qualified to play in the three million pound Champions League in India in October.
Sharks has said that they will persuade Smith to play for them in the championship, while the rules state that IPL sides will have the first call on players.
“We’ll need some discussions about Dwayne - we certainly want him,” The Sun quoted Mike Yardy, Sussex skipper, as saying.
The Sharks triumphed by 63 runs in Saturday’s Twenty20 Cup finals at Edgbaston, and will play in the Champions League along with runners-up Somerset and teams from India, and teams from Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies.
Smith played a vital role in the final match were he hit 59 from 26 balls in their 172-7. (ANI)
