Ex-ICL rebel Tuffey delighted to play for New Zealand

AUCKLAND - Former Indian Cricket League (ICL) rebel Daryl Tuffey has expressed delight at being called up to play for the New Zealand Test team on its tour of Sri Lanka.

“A year ago, I would never have thought that I would ever play for New Zealand again. I’m really excited, though, that I am and that I have another chance to improve my Test and one-day figures over the next year,” stuff.co.nz quoted Tuffey, as saying.

“This is a big opportunity that’s been handed to me, and I’m desperate to make sure I grasp it. I’m definitely going to have to push hard for a place in the side because it’s pretty competitive here,” he added.

While playing in the Black Caps squad for the first time since the 2007 World Cup, Tuffey took part in the first tour match against a Sri Lanka Development XI, where he took three wickets for 63 runs in two innings.

Tuffey said that he was pleased with his effort.

“It’s been a really great environment to come back to, which is pleasing. Obviously it’s quite a challenging experience to come back to Sri Lanka again, but I’m really enjoying it,” Tuffey added. (ANI)
