Pitino: Sex scandal ‘pure hell’ for family
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville coach Rick Pitino says a sex scandal involving a woman accused of trying to extort him has been “pure hell” for his family and that he’s had enough.
Pitino addressed the media at a news conference Wednesday hours after Louisville police released audio and video recordings of phone calls and an interview with the woman at the heart of the scandal.
Pitino said that his advisers have told him not to discuss details of the case but that the truth would come out at trial.
He admitted two weeks ago to having a sexual encounter in 2003 with Karen Cunagin Sypher, who was later charged with trying to extort him for millions. Sypher is facing counts of extortion and lying to the FBI.
