Suzuki, Beltre to return to Seattle lineup Tuesday

SEATTLE — The Mariners are without All-Star Ichiro Suzuki, active home run leader Ken Griffey Jr. and Gold Glove third baseman Adrian Beltre for their series opener against the first-place Los Angeles Angels.

Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu said before Monday night’s game that he expects Suzuki and Beltre back in the lineup Tuesday.

Suzuki was out for the eighth consecutive game because of tightness in his calf. He’s been frustrated at his team’s conservative approach to the injury.

Wakamatsu said one more day of rest would give the Mariners “peace of mind” that Suzuki will be able to remain healthy upon his return.

The 39-year-old Griffey did not start for the fourth straight time because of swelling in his knee.

Beltre will come off the disabled list Tuesday. He missed his 18th game Monday with a bruised testicle.
