KOLKATA - Former Indian cricket skipper Sourav Ganguly Saturday supported Sachin Tendulkar’s suggestion of a double innings format for one-day internationals and said the success of the upcoming Champions Trophy will be an indication of the future of the format.
“I agree with Sachin that we should try out new ideas in one-day cricket to make it more interesting and lively. I welcome his suggestion of a double innings format in 50-over matches,” Ganguly told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here.
Ganguly said he was keenly looking forward to the Champions Trophy tournament beginning Sep 22 in South Africa.
“We can get an indication of the future of one-day cricket after seeing the impact of the Champions Trophy,” he said.
Ganguly mourned the death of former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Raj Singh Dungarpur. “I knew him for long. It’s a big loss for Indian cricket,” he said.
