Budget: $13.92 billion, $2.82 billion Olympic budget, $11.1 billion for infrastructure. $5.5 billion for transport system, $813 million for security, $770 for energy projects, $479 million for venues. State and city guarantees.

Income: Around $1 billion from International Olympic Committee (IOC), $570 million from national sponsors, $406 million from ticket sales.

Venues: 29 venues plus four football stadiums. 18 existing venues, nine permanent and six temporary planned. Olympic Park with 10 venues in the centre, 14 further venues within 40 km. Opening and closing ceremony in Maracana stadium.

Olympic village: 34 apartment buildings with 17,700 beds, to be sold to public after Games.

Accommodation: 13,000 hotel beds, 25,000 in villages, 1,700 in hotel apartments, 8,500 on six cruise ships. Media village for 20,000 media.

Public support: 85 percent in Rio, 69 percent in Brazil.

Pros: Olympics have never been held in South America, IOC expects a lasting legacy for Brazil and considers the country fit to hold Olympics, high TV income from prime time broadcasts for US market. Football World Cup 2014 (planning)

Cons: High crime rate and currently inadequate transport system, low hotel capacity. Football World Cup 2014 (possibly less sponsorship income, two events too much for the country).
