3 power play goals for Blackhawks in 4-0 win

HELSINKI — The Chicago Blackhawks used three power-play goals to beat the Florida Panthers 4-0 Saturday after losing the season opener the previous day in a shootout.

Pleasing the crowd of 12,000, Chicago played Antti Niemi, a Finnish goalkeeper, in place of Cristobal Huet, and stopped 23 shots.

Brian Campbell, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp and Dustin Byfuglien got the goals.

Campbell scored 3:05 into the match with Finn Ville Koistinen, the star in Friday’s Florida win, off for interference. Kane pounced on a rebound from Sharp’s shot in the second period. Sharp’s goal was set up by Kris Versteeg.

Campbell fired low from the point, with Byfuglien providing a screen. It was the high point for Chicago, which played a fast-paced first period, creating several opportunities.

But Florida came back with a strong start to the second session. Kane’s opportunism, however, led to the second goal. Sharp fired at full speed on the right wing, and Kane was a split-second faster than defenseman Keith Ballard and put the rebound into the net.

The Panthers played two men short for 55 seconds a few minutes later and kept the goal untouched. Chicago’s third goal came in the last minute of the period, when Michael Frolik sat out for tripping. Twice the Panthers threatened while short-handed, but after the second try, the puck got loose, Versteeg beat Ballard to it and passed to Sharp for a breakaway. Sharp beat goalie Tomas Vokoun.
