Khan to defend WBA title against unbeaten Salita

NEWCASTLE, England — Amir Khan will make the first defense of his WBA light-welterweight title against the unbeaten Dmitriy Salita in December.

Khan will fight the New York-based, Ukraine-born boxer on Dec. 5 in England at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena.

Salita’s record is 30 wins and one draw with 16 knockouts. Khan, who won the title from Andreas Kotelnik with a unanimous decision in July, is 21-1 with 15 KOs.

Promoter Frank Warren says Tuesday: “For Amir’s first defense, this is a very tough fight for him, and he’s taking on a fighter that the American media are really building up at the moment.”
