Michalek scores 3 goals, Sens rout Lightning 7-1

OTTAWA — Milan Michalek had his first three-goal game in the NHL, scoring twice short-handed and once on a power play in the Ottawa Senators’ 7-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

Michalek, acquired at the start of training camp from San Jose in the Dany Heatley trade, shoveled a rebound past Mike Smith with Tampa Bay on the power play in the first period. The big Czech winger beat Smith again on a breakaway early in the second, helping the Senators to their fourth win in the past five games.

Michalek completed the hat trick when he converted a spinning pass from Jason Spezza during a third-period power play.
