Jerry Hairston Jr. Becomes The Yankee Of The Hour

It was a night that was spectacular all around, as fans from both sides waited with bated breath to witness the outcome of the match between the Los Angeles Angels and the New York Yankees. The cheers however went off from the Yankees end of the stadium finally, when they managed to clinch the win for the night. It was a night for Jerry Hairston Jr. all round, when he managed to score for his team on the throwing error that came his way from Izturis.

The New York Yankees won the game 4-3 and they therefore are the ones leading the AL championship series now, with 2-0. The long waiting [for as many as 5 hours] in the sidelines seemed to have paid off for Hairston when he entered the Saturday’s match as the 21st man [for his team] and left the field as the most appreciated and lauded man of the night.

From the looks of it, it appears that Jerry Hairston Jr. got to make the most of the night after all; and come to think of it, he was almost on the verge of giving up on the match [due to a wrist injury]. After the winning score of the match came from his bat, an ecstatic Jerry Hairston was found commenting, “My grandfather never got this opportunity, so I’m just going to enjoy it.” He now thanks his lucky stars for not having to miss out on the chance of playing in the post season. He said, “I was scared to death. I thought I’d miss the post season.”
