HAMBURG - Miroslav Klose struck twice as visiting Bayern Munich crushed Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 in the third round of the German Cup.

Wednesday’s first three goals came early within a span of 15 minutes as Munich played one of their better season matches in Frankfurt, four days after a lucky 2-1 league win at home over the same opponents.

Klose lobbed the opener in the 14th after a deep pass from captain Mark van Bommel and found the net again five minutes later with a low shot from the edge of the area.

The Germany striker Klose fed Thomas Mueller for a tap-in in the 29th after a blunder from Frankfurt’s Maik Franz and Luca Toni completed the big win for a quarter-final berth with a diving header in the 52nd.

“We played very well. Every win is good for the confidence. It is important that we are still in the cup,” said Munich coach Louis van Gaal.

Holders Werder Bremen, Schalke 04 were also untroubled on the night in 3-0 wins and TSG Hoffenheim even followed in Munich’s footsteps with a 4-0 triumph, all against second division teams.

Bremen stretched their unbeaten run to 16 competitive games from headers by Petri Pasanen (28th), Tim Borowski (39th) and Torsten Oehrl (79th) at home against Kaiserslautern.

Schalke won at 1860 Munich, with Rafinha tapping home in the 41st after his first shot was stopped by goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly. Benedikt Hoewedes’ double in the 48th and 81st wrapped up matters for Felix Magath’s team.

Hoffenheim cruised past TuS Koblenz from second-half goals by Sejad Salhivic, Vedad Ibisevic, Meicosuel and Marvin Compper.

Cologne and Augsburg also made the quarters on Tuesday. The draw takes place Sunday and the games will be played Feb 9-10.
