Hassan’s 30 leads Sacred Heart past Yale 92-86
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Corey Hassan scored 30 points and was one of five Sacred Heart players to score in double-figures as the Pioneers held off Yale 92-86 in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.
Chauncey Hardy scored 14 points, Ryan Litke had 13, Mehmet Sahan had 12 and Jerrell Thompson added 10 to lead the Pioneers to a win in the opening game of the Connecticut 6 Classic. Liam Potter added 10 rebounds and four blocks.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 27-9 lead spurred on by 10 points from Hassan during the run, including a pair of 3-pointers. Sacred Heart led 52-39 at the half.
Sacred Heart shot 55.6 percent (35-for-63) from the field in the game, compared to a 38.8 percent mark (26-for-67) for Yale. Hassan finished 3-for-6 from beyond the arc in the contest.
Alex Zampier led the Bulldogs with 35 points, including 5-for-12 from 3-point range.
