Temple opens season with 76-56 win over Delaware
NEWARK, Del. — Ryan Brooks scored 23 points and sparked a key first-half run in Temple’s 76-56 win over Delaware on Saturday.
Down 5-0, the Owls went on a 28-4 run capped by two Brooks’ free throws with 8:50 left in the first half. Brooks, who also had nine rebounds, scored 11 points during the run.
Juan Fernandez added 14 points and Lavoy Allen grabbed 15 rebounds for Temple, which shot 50 percent from the field (25 of 50).
The Owls led by as many as 29 points, 74-45, on two free throws by Luis Guzman with 2:46 left to play in their 16th straight win against the Blue Hens.
Delaware, which shot 33.3 percent from the field (20 of 60) was led by Jawan Carter with 17 points. Carter also had four of the Blue Hens’ nine turnovers. The Owls scored 14 points off of turnovers.
The Blue Hens trailed 40-19 at halftime, and lost their fourth straight home opener.
