Seton Hall knocks off Monmouth 87-72

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Jeremy Hazell scored 26 points and Herb Pope had 15 points and 17 rebounds to lift Seton Hall to an 87-72 victory over Monmouth on Sunday.

Hazell scored eight points during a 21-4 run to close the first half, including a 3-pointer from 30 feet to beat the buzzer and send Seton Hall (2-0) into halftime with a 42-29 lead.

The junior guard was 5-for-14 from beyond the arc and contributed four assists and three steals.

Jamel Jackson scored 12 of his 17 points in the first half for Seton Hall, which held a double-digit lead for the final 22 minutes of the game.

Travis Taylor led four Monmouth players in double figures with 19 points.

Will Campbell contributed 14 points, Ed Waite scored 13 and Mike Myers Keitt added 11 points for the Hawks (1-1), who led 25-21 with 6 minutes left in the half.
