Dale helps Cornell hold off Massachusetts 74-61

AMHERST, Mass. — Louis Dale tied a career high with 24 points to lead Cornell to a 74-61 victory over Massachusetts on Wednesday night.

Dale was 9-for-17 from the field and scored 11 points in a row during a key second-half stretch in the Legends Classic. He finished 4-for-9 from beyond the arc as the Big Red (2-0) went 8-for-21 from 3-point range.

Ricky Harris scored 26 points for the Minutemen (0-2) to pass two UMass legends on the program’s career scoring list. In the first half, a 3-pointer moved him past Julius Erving (1,370 points) and a layup in the second half surpassed Marcus Camby (1,387). With 1,388 points, the senior guard is in 12th place all-time at UMass and has reached double figures in 70 of his 100 games.

Cornell led 33-28 at halftime and scored the first six points of the second half. The Big Red then held off the Minutemen, who won the rebounding battle 37-27.
