South Florida outlasts UNC-Wilmington 74-66
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Dominique Jones scored 28 points and South Florida beat North Carolina-Wilmington 74-66 on Sunday in the third round of the Charleston Classic.
The Bulls (4-1) led by as many as 12 points in the second half, and had a 37-32 lead at halftime after closing the half on an 11-1 run. Augustus Gilchrist added 14 points for the Bulls, all in the second half.
John Fields led UNC-Wilmington (1-4) with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Chad Tomko also scored 17.
USF managed 28 points off 18 UNC-Wilmington turnovers. The Bulls shot 56 percent from the field in the first half versus a 51.9 percent mark for UNC-Wilmington.
The Bulls opened the tournament with a 65-58 victory over Davidson on Thursday, and lost to South Carolina 69-66 in Friday’s second round. UNC-Wilmington lost to Miami 67-60 in the second round after opening the tournament with an 80-69 victory over Penn State.
