Back pain put aside for now, Tony Benshoof expects to race in World Cup luge this weekend

USA Luge’s Benshoof plans to race this weekend

USA Luge veteran Tony Benshoof says his back pain is under control for now, and he expects to resume his quest for a third Olympic berth at this weekend’s World Cup stop in Igls, Austria.

Benshoof re-herniated a surgically repaired disk in his back last week. He took a cortisone injection on Monday in Calgary, then flew to Igls on Wednesday without any new problems flaring up.

Benshoof says he’ll resume on-ice training Thursday. The men’s race in Igls is Sunday.
