Harris scores 22 as No. 9 Xavier beats Kansas
FREEPORT, Bahamas — Amber Harris scored 22 points and had nine rebounds to help No. 9 Xavier beat No. 18 Kansas 76-71 on Thursday at the Junkanoo Jam.
Xavier (4-0) led 72-67 with 50 seconds left after Harris made two free throws. Kansas then hit four straight from the foul line to make it 72-71 with 27 seconds remaining.
Harris then made two more free throws and after a defensive stop, Special Jennings sealed the win from the foul line. She finished with 17 points. Ta’Shia Phillips added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Danielle McCray led Kansas (3-1) with 23 points.
Trailing by five late in the first half, Xavier rallied to take a 38-37 lead at the break. The Musketeers extended the advantage to 52-42 as they started the second half with a 14-5 spurt.
Kansas rallied behind McCray, who hit consecutive 3-pointers, to cut the deficit to 68-66 with 3:20 left.
