Toledo rallies late to upset Dayton 68-65
TOLEDO, Ohio — Naama Shafir hit four free throws in the final minute to cap a furious rally and help Toledo defeat No. 20 Dayton 68-65 on Wednesday night.
Dayton appeared to have the game under control with a 60-44 lead with 10:39 remaining, but Tanika Mays hit a layup to start a 24-5 run that helped the Rockets (6-2) win their third straight game.
Toledo cut Dayton’s lead to 63-62 on Jessica Williams’ 3-pointer with 2:16 left and took the lead on Courtney Ingersoll’s two free throws for a 64-63 advantage with 1:26 remaining.
Shafir hit two free throws for 66-63 lead, and after Kristin Daugherty’s layup cut the lead to 66-65 with 42 seconds left, Shafir hit two more free throws for the final margin.
Shafir and Allie Clifton scored 15 points each and Mays finished with 12 points for Toledo.
Daugherty led Dayton (8-2) with 21 points and Justine Raterman added 14 points.
