Defending champ Helena Jonsson, Christoph Sumann win individual World Cup race

Jonsson, Sumann win biathlon World Cup races

POKLJUKA, Slovenia — Christoph Sumann of Austria won the 20-kilometer individual World Cup race Thursday, while Tim Burke of the United States finished 14th.

Defending overall champion Helena Jonsson led a Swedish one-two finish by winning a 15-kilometer World Cup race.

Sumann finished 14.2 seconds ahead of Simon Fourcade of France, with both men missing one target. Alexander Os of Norway was third.

Sumann moved ahead of Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway, who did not compete, in the overall standings. Burke, who missed three targets, is third overall.

Jonsson did not miss a target as she beat Anna Carin Olofsson-Zidek by 22.6 seconds to clinch her second individual win this season. Olofsson-Zidek was off target with one shot. Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia finished third.

The victory keeps Jonsson in first place in individual races with 120 points and in the overall standings with 277 points.
