Florida (GaeaTimes.com)- Urban Meyer, the coach of the Florida Gators is stepping down from his position and leaving the Florida football team in a lurch. Urban Meyer is said to be such a legendary leader that New England’s quarterback coach was once sent to him to learn his offenses. This happened in the year 2006 when the New England head coach was Bill Belichak and the Quarterback coach was Josh McDaniels.

Urban Meyer has served the Gators from 2007 onwards after signing to become the Florida coach in 2005. However, these extended contracts may be broken up because the coach has decided to step down, citing health issues for leaving Florida. The 50-year-old coach had been suffering from chest pains, including the one which occurred in 2009, after his team lost to Alabama in the SEC championship game by 32-13.

Urban Meyers, who will be stepping down after the Sugar Bowl, is rumored to be replaced by Dan Mullen. His last game as a coach will be the one in which his team plays against the Cincinnati Barcats. Dan Mullen, who has served as Florida’s offensive coordinator previously and is currently the Mississippi state’s head coach, may be chosen to take over as the Florida football team’s coach after Urban Meyers leaves the Florida Gators. Some people say, that Dan Mullen is the only imaginable replacement that could take over from the soon to be former coach. The duo have brought a huge change in the Spread offense in such a way that now play-action passes have become a common tactic for the attackers.

However, no official statement has been made as to the replacement for Urban Meyers, who has decided to step down and leave the Florida team.
