American star Vonn crashes at World Cup GS
LIENZ, Austria — Defending champion Lindsey Vonn believes she may have broken her arm after crashing on the opening leg of a World Cup giant slalom.
Vonn said that her left arm “really hurts” and “I believe it’s broken” before entering an ambulance that took her to a hospital for tests. There was no official word on her status.
The 25-year-old Vonn started 15th in Monday’s race and made a couple of mistakes in the early part of her run, falling well behind the leaders. After a sharp left turn, she lost balance on a bump and fell backward, hitting a gate and losing a ski.
Vonn was down for about 10 minutes before standing up, putting her skis back on and finally reaching the bottom of the hill with her left arm in a sling.
