North Dakota wind project near Rugby completed
RUGBY, N.D. — A $300 million wind energy project in the north central part of the state has been finished.
Iberdrola Renewables developed the wind farm north of Rugby, which includes 71 turbines and is capable of generating up to 149 megawatts of electricity. Construction first got started last year.
Iberdrola spokeswoman Jan Johnson says Missouri River Energy Services of Sioux Falls, S.D., has agreed to buy 40 megawatts of power from the project. The company is looking for other customers for the rest of the power.
Missouri River Energy supplies power to about 60 municipal electric systems in four states. In North Dakota it serves city utility operations in Cavalier, Hillsboro, Lakota, Northwood, Riverdale and Valley City.
