Oberstolz, Gruber win World Cup luge doubles

WINTERBERG, Germany — Christian Oberstolz and Patrick Gruber won their first doubles race of the season Saturday to lead a 1-2 finish for Italy at a World Cup luge event.

Oberstolz and Gruber had a combined time of 1 minute, 28.597 seconds over the two runs to score their 15th career victory.

World champions Gerhard Plankensteiner and Oswald Haselrieder of Italy were 0.20 seconds behind.

Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch of Germany, the 2002 Olympic champions, finished .393 seconds back in third. Marc Grimette and Brian Martin of the United States were fourth.

Three-time world champions Andre Florschuetz and Torsten Wustlich of Germany leads the overall standings with 442 points despite finishing 12th. Oberstolz and Gruber are next with 440.
