Whitman and Dorsett take gold at Miami OCR
MIAMI — The American team of Scott Whitman and Julia Dorsett won the gold medal in the SKUD-18 class at the Rolex Miami OCR on Friday.
They clinched the class with one race to go and skipped the final one, leaving Canada’s John McRoberts and Brenda Hopkins to finish second. The duo are aiming for the 2012 Paralympics, though Dorsett competed in tennis in 2004.
Canada’s Paul Tingley, who won gold in the 2008 Paralympics, won the 2.4mR class over Thierry Schmitter of the Netherlands and American bronze-medalist John Ruf.
Aleksander Wang-Hansen, Per Eugen Kristiansen and Marie Solberg won the Sonar class.
Paige Railey of the United States kept her lead in the Laser Radial class, while Americans Andy Horton and James Lyne lead the Star class.
