VANCOUVER (GaeaTimes.com)- The majority of athletes participating in the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 are trying to win so that their medals fetch them fame and money. However, for Kim Yuna, a South Korean figure skater, the scenario is quite different. She may incur huge losses if she misses the gold medal in the Olympics. She got involved in a number of brand endorsement deals in her country in past. These endorsements fetch her almost $8 million annually, and she is said to be the highest earning athlete in the ongoing Winter Olympics. Expectations on her are set high.

Kim Yuna is tied in a contract with carmaker Hyundai motors. However, if she fails to live up to the expectations at the Olympics, the company may decide against renewing the deal with her. Besides, if she does not win the medal, there is a chance of her countrymen accusing her of concentrating less on sports and more on brand endorsements. It is still okay if she brings home silver or bronze in place for gold, but if she returns without any, that will not go down well with her countrymen.

Kim Yuna had taken part in as many as 18 advertisements the previous year. These include MNCs like Samsung and Hyundai. This Olympic is crucial for her career. If she manages to win the gold medal here, there will be no looking back for her. She has many qualities apart from her athletic skills and they would help her to take a giant leap in global athletic arena.
