Rochette likely to skate at world championships

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette will likely compete at next month’s world championships after spending some time with her father and the rest of her family.

Rochette won the bronze medal Thursday night, four days after the sudden death of her mother. Her story has become a focal point of the games, with people across Canada and beyond touched by her courage.

Rochette said Friday her mother’s death hasn’t fully sunk in yet, and it probably won’t until she and her father return home. But she feels her mother would be proud of what she did in Vancouver.
