Suspect in poker heist surrenders to authorities
BERLIN — Berlin police says a 21-year-old man suspected of taking part in the storming of a poker tournament in which armed robbers made off with €240,000 ($329,350) in jackpot money has surrendered to authorities.
A spokesman for Berlin police, Michael Merkel, says the suspect surrendered to the Berlin prosecutor’s office. He did not give details but said police are planning to release more information later Wednesday.
The Bild Zeitung daily reported that the suspect has been held since Monday night. It says he has refused to reveal where the other robbers and the jackpot money are.
German authorities have been hunting for four suspects who, armed with guns and machetes, stormed the poker tournament in broad daylight March 6 in downtown Berlin.
