Rendezvous Sports Owns Kochi Team

CHENNAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- On Sunday morning auction in Chennai for the two new IPL teams, the Rendezvous Sports World Ltd bid for the Kochi team and won the ownership bid for it. The new Kochi team will join the IPL along with Pune team in the 2011 season of the Indian Premier League. The Pune team has been claimed by Sahara Adventure Sports. The names for the teams have not been decided as of yet.

At the auction, along with Rendezvous Sports World Ltd and Sahara Adventure Sports, were present Adani groups and Videocon. The Rendezvous Sports World Ltd put a bid of $ 333.33 million for the Kochi team and owned it. Sahara Adventure Sports shed the highest bid of $ 370 million and got the ownership of the Pune Team. Both the owners according to the deal, have to pay 10 percent of the amount within the next 48 hours reportedly.

Rendezvous Sports World Ltd director Pooja Gulati has reportedly said after the bid that though Kerala is not known for cricket as such, the game is popular all over India. She asserted that with the new Kochi team, the notion that Keralites do not love cricket will surely be changed. A stadium is being built by the Kerala Cricket Association and until then, the venue for the game will be decided by the IPL. Then inclusion of the Kochi and the Pune team makes the number of team for IPL, 10. Lalit Modi, the chairman and commissioner of IPL, has said that in the 2011 season of the IPL there would be 94 matches due to the inclusion of the two new teams.
