Pedro Martinez Enlivens Opening Ceremony

BOSTON (GaeaTimes.com)- Pedro Martinez, the former Boston Red Sox starting Pitcher on Sunday night, threw the first ceremonial pitch for Boston Red Sox during the opening ceremony of the 2010 MLB season for the league. After the opening ceremony, the host Boston Red Sox played against New York Yankees.

The presence of Pedro Martinez increased not only the grandeur of the whole event but also added to the excitement of the viewers who were surprised to see the former Boston Red Sox player peering out from behind the giant American Flag. Pedro Martinez walked from the left field to the pitcher mound. The player who received an expectantly overwhelming ovation from around 38,000 people on the Fenway stands, took his time to walk to the pitcher and wave his hands towards the crowd to acknowledged their love and respect. Pedro Martinez also shook hands with the New York Yankees‘ third baseman Alex Rodriguez. Though the crowd seemed not very pleased with this action of the star player, it only showed the sporting spirit of Pedro Martinez.

On reaching the mound, Pedro Martinez threw the first pitch towards Boston Red Sox’s catcher Jason Varitek. The pitch that was thrown high and inside by the former player reminded the audience of his career with the Boston Red Sox. He had played a key role in the 2004 win of the Boston Red Sox which brought to the team the first World Series title. The star player after the throw, went on to meet and embrace another former player of the team who was sitting on field. 90-year-old Johnny Pesky a former coach, player and manager of the Boston Red Sox was hugged by Pedro Martinez.
